Adjusting security options on external hard drive in Windows Vista?

I have an external hard drive that gives me fits every time I hook it up to my Windows Vista computer. Suppose I want to delete a file; then I get a dialog box that reads ''Destination Folder Access Denied: You need to confirm this operation.'' But the confirmation process is unbelievably corny and involves a second ''User Account Control'' dialog box. This is ridiculous. I don't want to have to go through two dialog boxes every time I try to move or delete a file. How can I get around having to do this?
