What kind of security measures do hackers use?

Not including antivirus, spyware, firewall (hard/soft), linux/unix. What would you suggest? Programs, web sites, In computer measures, antihackers apps, autokill the attempted hacker's computer....?

They use common sense. It fails a lot of people, but not hackers. You don't leave settings at their default. For instance, user names and passwords. They update all of their software. They use IDS (intrusion detection) software.

the best i ken suggest is zone alarm! full proof security, including nt security! but its a bit annoying coz it ask u permission for every intrusion! download at www.9down.com
Depends on their knowledge and paranoia level.

Crackers (or to use a slightly corrected yet still ambiguous media term 'Black Hat hackers') OTOH tend to be more paranoid on average due to their indulgence in illegal activities. One could say that they see security as being the best defense is a good offense. :)
