In the Settings dialog box, scroll to the Miscellaneous section.

Under Userdata persistence , select Enable.

Have you tried going to the Microsoft site to get updates? Usually they can scan your your system via the browser (IE only) and advise you of any pending updates. Also make sure you have Windows updates enabled in Explorer, right click on My Computer, choose Properties, click on the Automatic Updates and enable it from there, make a choice how you want updates, (Automatic (recommended), Download updates but let me choose when to install them, Notify me but don't automatically download or install them or Turn off Automatic updates. Your choice. Good luck!
