Consult your system support personnel if you work from home

Use virus protection software

Use a firewall

Don鈥檛 open unknown email attachments

Don鈥檛 run programs of unknown origin

Disable hidden filename extensions

Keep all applications (including your operating system) patched

Turn off your computer or disconnect from the network when not in use

Disable Java, Java Script, and ActiveX if possible

Disable scripting features in email programs

Make regular backups of critical data

Make a boot disk in case your computer is damaged or compromised

Yea, make sure you are the ONLY person on your XP system that has Administrator rights (go to Control Panel %26gt; User Accounts and the area that shows your username make sure it says ''Computer Administrator''. And to ensure that no one else is using your machine delete every other account you see displayed in this area. This will ensure that only you have access to this computer. Once again, it is imperative that you be ''Computer Administrator'' since it is your computer. And make sure your password isn't obvious like leaving it blank :)
