Mcafee Security Center- Network Map?

On my network map, I noticied an additional computer that was not there before. I have since banned that I.p. address but can't seem to get it off my map as I have no idea what it is. The broadband specialist I spoke to had no idea what he was talking about so...any ideas??

Hello,

(ANS) This sounds to me like it relates to your network ''Master Browser'' has a stale entry and so thinks the IP address (old machine in question) still exists when it doesn't.

**This happens sometimes in a networking environment, especially if you have any reference to netbios or name resolution using a machines hostname.

**Especially if its a network including NT, win2k, XP or Vista and uses NTFS.

Sounds to me like your computer has been hacked, I have had this problem myself quite a while back but mine was with zone alarm. If I was you I would do a back up of any important files you want to keep and then put it all onto disc then do a reinstall of windows. Bit of a pain I know but its safer than allowing someone free reign to all your personal info ie passwords, bank details and whatever info you have on your computer.
Often a machine showing in network will hang about for weeks even after it has left the network. If you are using wireless, set encryption, if you are encrypted nobody else can connect. Banning an ip address does not work well, if they change their address they will get back in.
